Crack of dawn balloon ride over Cappadocia.
Crack of dawn balloon ride over Cappadocia.
Could it be any earlier? That’s all I could think of as my alarm rang out at 4:00am Cappadocia time. What was I thinking when I booked a sunrise balloon ride? Didn’t I realize that ballooning at sunrise would require me to get up long before the crack of dawn? A quick cup of coffee in the lobby of the Museum Hotel and we were off in the Atmosfer Balloons transfer van (yes that’s how they spell it, Atmosfer.) heading towards the valley and our rendezvous point.

The air was crisp with not much of a breeze. There was a sliver of light on the horizon when I spotted the sleepy balloons being awoken against their will by loud blasts of hot air being forced through their narrow neck. One blast..two blasts...three blasts. "Wake up! Wake up! Wake up" the burners seemed to shout. It wasn't long before the valley floor seemed to come alive with brightly colored balloons lifting themselves effortlessly into the morning air. All seeming to wake unlike me, with a smile on their face. It was amazingly peaceful. Amazingly beautiful.

One by one our group filled the gondola. We were quartered off into the basket, two people in each corner ready to float into the dawn's early light. "How crazy," I remember thinking to myself. "This is like The Wizard of OZ." The balloon lifted us from the desert floor. I felt like a milkweed seed as we floated over Cappadocia, light and airy and carefree. The quiet and calm of the morning seemed to be in every direction. There was no noise, no stop lights, no cars, no phones, no anything but quiet. Just us and the other balloons drifting along with some above us some below and some to our side. All of us just floating.

Below us, the fairy chimneys of Cappadocia was an incredible sight when on the ground looking up at them. But from the sky, oh goodness that's where the true magic is. Such odd "little" formations looking so cheerful and happy. They seemed to be waiting indeed for the fairies. All of this can only take place in Cappadocia, at the crack of dawn, in the basket of a hot air balloon.

We ended our ride with champagne in an open field, lifting our glasses to an experience that will last a lifetime.

Back at the Museum Hotel, I watched the next batch of balloons floating on the not so distant horizon. The world below for those ballooners must have been a bit busier looking than it was for me. Without a doubt I would do it again. Without a doubt I would get up pre-crack of dawn for a balloon ride over Cappadocia, and this time, like the balloons, I would rise with a smile on my face!

The Museum Hotel Cappodicia Turkey

From the moment we landed in Cappadocia and made our way to the Museum Hotel, I knew we were some place truly special. Was it that the temperature was absolutely perfect, or that the sun was just beginning to set, and I was enjoying a full bodied glass of red wine from the terrace. I am sure it was...Read more.

Wedding in Paradise
Bonnie's recommendation for our destination location to be Sandals Emerald Bay was spot on. She helped to get all of our guests booked, worked to get the best hotel contract. We were so surprised at the concessions she was able to negotiate due to our group size made our wedding so much more than we could have ever done on our own.

Your trip was easy for me to recommend Mark since I did the same RM route myself. There is something about the fall weather that I knew you and your group would love!

A Moose in the road!
We weren't sure which cruise line to Alaska would be the right one for us. Bonnie recommended Holland America with a tour into the Yukon. Everything was perfect, even the moose in the road.
